Robert P. Deegan
Superintendent/President

Robert P. Deegan is the ninth Superintendent/President of Palomar College and the Palomar Community College District. He was appointed by the Governing Board in December 2004.  Mr. Deegan is responsible for the oversight of San Diego County’s largest single-campus district, with more than 33,000 students.  He has devoted his energies to ensuring that the campus provides innovative educational opportunities for the communities served.

In his years with Palomar, the College successfully secured the passage of Proposition M, a $694-million general obligation facilities bond measure.  This measure will provide renovations to the San Marcos campus. It also will fund the development of a North Education Center in Fallbrook and a South Education Center in the southern region of the District.

In addition to the extensive development of new and renovated buildings, Mr. Deegan has focused his efforts on addressing the changing needs of students and the community.  During his tenure, the College has experienced record enrollments, as well as record numbers of students receiving degrees and certificates.  He has worked extensively with campus leaders to develop a collaborative environment to support the College’s mission of student success.

Mr. Deegan came to Palomar from Santiago Canyon College in Orange County where he served for six years as Vice President of Student Services.  Prior to his position at Santiago Canyon, Mr. Deegan was a faculty member and administrator at Irvine Valley College, where he served for nearly twenty years.
